Tim Sands

AREA MANAGEMENT BIOLOGIST, BRISTOL BAY WEST
"I am honored to work as a caretaker for this resource so that it will be there for my children’s children to enjoy."

Bristol Bay is the single largest wild sockeye salmon run on the planet, and ranks as the world’s richest sockeye fishery—and it is Tim Sands’ job to help take care of it. Using an abundance of meticulously collected information, Sands determines when and for how long to allow commercial fishing. He mostly concentrates on the commercial sockeye fishery, which typically nets 20-30 million fish each year. “I am honored to work as a caretaker for this resource so that it will be there for my children’s children to enjoy.”
